Reformer Pilates
“What is reformer Pilates?” is a question we get often about the exercise class taught by Chartered Physiotherapists here in Excel.
Reformer Pilates is a form of physical exercise that strengthens core, improves balance, control, flexibility and breathing. The reformer is a machine specifically designed for Pilates exercises to be performed on.
The exercises on the reformers works muscles through a large range of motion and are ideal to tone muscles increase stability and mobility of joints. It is a full body work out which improves overall wellbeing, strengthening the abdomen, lower back, hips, and buttocks, and allowing you to exercise your body in a safe environment with supervision and guidance from a Chartered Physiotherapist.
The Reformer machine has 3 main elements to it including a sliding carriage, adjustable springs and pulleys to regulate tension and resistance. The springs and pulleys create adjustable resistance for the exercises as well assistance whilst moving on the carriage. It allows you to work more accurately and effectively as it is easier to activate the correct core muscles. It challenges stabilizing muscles as it’s a moving surface where exercises are performed in kneeing, standing and lying position.
It is a fantastic and safe way to get fit, toned and become stronger. It is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. People are assessed via a free introduction class before joining a class to ensure each member is aware of how to use the reformer safely and effectively.
